Coding is a lot of more complicated than i would like it to be. But this workshop was really helpful in breaking down each part and step. I know that I'll definitely be looking back at these two coding workshops during my research project to make sure I’m doing everything correctly. I also thought that the task was pretty good for practice. I hope I created a good enough research scheme! We’ll see how everything goes today in class. It will be interesting to compare and contrast all of our different coding schemes we came up with. Anyway, very helpful!

This coding workshop #2 made me realized how time consuming coding data can get! I am currently coding the first three surveys I received back from my friends for the survey workshop. It is taking me quite a while to code it since I needed to decide how to format and pick out everything. This workshop made it easier for me because there were great examples in showing me how to do so. I think after coding datas will definitely make my life easier when I am looking through the research result. Coding skill is a great thing to have because it makes you super organized and it’s easy to see what is important/not. Overall, this coding workshop is a great wake up call in letting me know how much time research can take!

Coding is ROUGH. I do have experience but sometimes coding can be a nightmare NO matter how many times you do it. In this workshop being able to give our sample surveys and then code is going to be good practice to help in the future when you really need to code properly. Coding really is challenging if you don't know your own scheme very well and that takes practice. I feel with this workshop everyone is going to get a good chance to code and recode and learn from their mistakes so during the final write up and presentation people can easily describe their coding and make sense of it all. This is a never ending frustration but it will help us one day in our future careers..I'm counting on it. haha :)

Coding can be really difficult, but there are also moments where you realize you know exactly what you are doing, and it then becomes more about repeating the same process while working with different data. The hardest part about coding the data is coming up with the coding scheme and figuring out exactly how you want to code the data you collect. This workshop was really helpful because we were able to apply the data from the surveys and apply it to a real coding scheme. The Coding Workshop part 2 really goes in-depth about coding and how we should use our data in our coding scheme. We were able to go hands on and conduct surveys as well as gather the data that was needed for the coding process. I found this workshop to be extremely helpful and I am excited to meet in class to discuss more about the coding process.

Coding is a lot of work, it is not really that hard, just time consuming. It is important for me to remember when coding in teams that we are on the same page when it comes to what we are observing and what are coding schemes are. It is also important that the coding provides the best framework for your analysis. After reading this workshop I know that qualitative coding is going to be harder then quantitative coding. We all need to remember that we are coding data for a reason. We want to be able to see patterns in our coding to be able to answer our RQ and have evidence to back up our findings. I feel like coding the interviews for our project is going to be easier then our classroom observation because we are all asking the same questions.

Coding is always a tedious task that takes a lot of time. While it is not hard once you get the hang of it, it does take time. With this second coding workshop it is a good opportunity to practice so it becomes easier for your project. Last year the survey and coding workshop were not put together, but I feel like it was a very good idea to put them together. They feed directly off one and other and it allows you to put it into practice as it is happening, not waiting a week. Further it is always helpful to look over the different ways to code things and create categories. Understanding that we are coding data everyday, it is still important to understand the difference with qualitative research. One thing I would change is that the requirements for the surveys are in the coding workshop and not the survey workshop so I did make a survey that had 5 qualitative questions on it and no quantitative, but as I was reading through the coding workshop it said that they survey should have four quantitative and 6 qualitative question. Otherwise the workshop was helpful.

This workshop was definitely a great addition to the material introduce to us from last week's coding workshop. Oddly enough, the information seemed more concrete and easy to grasp about advancing to coding. I especially like the visual example of doing number bins since it gives more flexibility with being descriptive with numbers in your findings. I am also glad the workshop broke down the concept of coding qualitative questions since it does seem harder to structure categories correctly with a context that can have multiple meanings and understands. After reviewing the workshop and going into depth with my own data collected last week, it gives me a little bit more confidence when it comes to coding. At this point for me, the more practice in it, the better.

This was definitely a helpful workshop because it reminded me about coding and the details. Coding is not and will not be my favorite thing but with this workshop and the last coding one I think I will be able to do it. With out these workshops I would be so lost because they help me with examples and it really makes it clear for me to understand that way. It seems so easy when going through it step by step on the workshop and all seems to make sense but then when I look at my own data I feel slightly lost. That's where time really comes into play. Coding isn't something that can happen in a few minutes, it really takes time to look at each piece of information and dig deeper to figure out where it belongs. Overall I'm very happy we have this extra coding practice from this workshop, nice little reminders.
oh and ps it was helpful to learn how to code qualitative and quantitative data.

Interesting, and helpful workshop! this part of coding seems much easier than the first workshop on coding because its about the details of intering the data into a useable way. I thought the part on coding qualatative data was the most helpful because creating categories for this is the hardest because all of the different answers you can get. The quanative part seemed straight forward and easy to do. Overall, i thought this workshop was helpful and reminded all of the close detail there is when creating coding charts for data.

The coding workshop this time was more helpful for me. I had more interest and understanding in the information I had to code. I also felt like I was able to come up with my own way to code. Hopefully it works and isn't just something that works for me but is actually completely wrong. I'm looking forward to the in class portion of this workshop so that I can see what my classmates did and how our coding schemes and data differed. I am hoping to learn something new through the in class portion that will help me in the coding for our research projects since I am still not fully confident.

This coding data workshop made me realize how time consuming and difficult it may be to find the right categories and to sift through what information would be useful versus information that may not be useful. It also seems somewhat random in the sense that there are no "pure numbers"-you have to get information from meaningful quotes or responses, find words that stick out to the meaning of the research, then organize and code the data accordingly. While I understood this workshop, I am still a little intimidated by the categories, sub categories, then the sub-sub categories. I think that working with teams to code the survey data will be useful for me for understanding coding from other people's perspective.

Since I am working in a group for the project, this workshop seems very important and useful. I found that it is going to be a little extra work because we have to constantly work together to make sure our coding is the same, otherwise, we all may obtain different and possibly insufficient information. I also liked the example of the coding sheet because it helps give me a visual of how I want to organize my coding for my project. Coding is still something that's going to be extremely time consuming so I'm hoping I don't fall behind on it, and I hope that my group and I can figure out an easy and simple way as possible to code our data together.

Coding is definitely harder than it looks. I thought it would be easy coming up with categories to place all of my data in but it wasn't. I had to intently look at the data connect related answers together in order to make a valid category. On the other hand, I found it to be very useful. It organizes all of your data beautifully and it gives you a clear picture of all the connections there is to be made. I can see where you'd have to be really diligent in categorizing. There are a lot of sub categories that come up which can be overwhelming. The workshop really helped me understand all I need to know about the process of coding. It helped me greatly when I was looking at my survey results. I was able to follow the example format and get done with it in a shorter amount of time than I anticipated.

I am going to be honest, coding kind of sucks. It is a concept that I have never really used before so it has been a slight challenge to fully understand how to do it. The workshops on coding have helped and its nice to read through the workshop and get walked step-by-step to understand the process. It is very useful once you are done coding because it allows the researcher to see the data in a very organized way. I am glad that I am doing my project with a partner so we can help each other coding and maybe it was be as time consuming.

Coding The first few questions was an easy task. coding the qualitative items was much more difficult. I had to sit there and think about how I could fit the data into some categories. It was a lengthy process just to code 5 surveys. I wasn't expecting to take me as long as it did. Anyway I am glad I was able to see it so that now I would have a better idea of what would be comming up in the near future with some of the work Ive got ahead. The workshop itself was also good. I liked this one because it felt a little more direct and specific than coding workshop one. I felt I better understood this one than the last coding workshop.
